In March 2013 I sold most of my stuff, loaded the rest into my car and got ready to live out of suitcase while I figured out what to do with my life. I spent the next few months extracting myself from what, with hindsight, was an emotionally abusive relationship. I had my first “summer fling”, pierced my nose, and drank more alcohol than I probably had in the previous two years combined.
1. Feeling scared about something is a sign that I need to do it. The most valuable experiences of my life have happened when I’ve stepped out of my comfort zone.
When I have an idea for a new project, I find myself making a shopping list of everything I need. A couple of weeks ago, when I started jogging to work, I treated myself to some new running clothes to inspire me. This week, I decided I wanted to start drawing again. I thought about when I’d have time to go to a stationery shop to get some new pens and a sketchbook. It was only when I couldn’t find the time that I considered using the pen and paper that I already owned. I realised that I prepare myself for things by stocking up on supplies.
Faced with moving abroad in a few months, and generally wanting to live a more focused less cluttered live, I’ve spent the past few weeks sorting through my wardrobe. My dream is a capsule wardrobe of a few good quality items that all work well with each other. It’s a work in progress, but thought I’d share some of the things I’ve learnt so far.
